Spotted in New Zealand: OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection + a small rant

Over the weekend OPI released the Pirates of the Caribbean collection in New Zealand stores.

Top: Skull and Glossbones, Mermaid's Tears, Steady As She Rose, Planks A Lot
Bottom: Sparrow Me the Drama, Stranger Tide, Silver Shatter

I also found out that Farmers has increased their retail price of OPI to NZ$26.90 a polish! This is INSANE!!!!!! $24.90 was already far too much to pay and now it is just ridiculous. I am not sure whether this is Farmer's fault or OPI's but I for one am not happy about it. Thank goodness for e-tailers that ship to New Zealand.

The only one I am interested in getting from this collection is the purple Planks A Lot, but I will not be rushing out to get it.... especially not from Farmers. I already have the p2 silver crackling top coat, so will not be investing in the OPI one.

Have you seen this in your local store? How much were they selling it for? Do you agree with me that NZ$26.90 is daylight robbery?

Lots of Love
Lisa

  1. Unfortunately most of the nail polish places like Farmers and the pharmacies sell in NZ is way, way, way overpriced (OPI, Orly, Essie...). I think it's the retailers mark-up that does it, because a few years ago, you couldn't buy them overseas and get them shipped here, so they had the monopoly over the way people could source them.

Let's boycott this kind of thing and put our hard earned money into eBay and e-tailers :)

  2. The price of the DS collection is what shocked me most - I'm sure it's $36.90!

I have actually paid this because there wasn't any on trademe and I wanted Lincoln Park After Dark like RIGHT THAT MINUTE. I normally use it every fortnight or so, so it doesn't seem too much.

I really don't see what pastels have to do with Pirates of the Carribean... the silver shatter is the only one that makes sense. Ah well...

  6. It's definitely Farmer's fault.. and then al lthe other stores around them increase their prices to keep up with Farmers and make a huge wad of money with this.

I know an online NZ store you can purchase O.P.I's from.. but not sure if they have PotC yet but if you wait a bit longer or email them about you'll get it 50% off farmer's price so about $16ish each.

  7. Morgan I got the p2 one in a swap a few months ago.

Ngelic I have been using beyond beauty for ages. Up until I discovered transdesign gets the collections earlier I had received most of my OPI from them. They used to have a different name on Trademe about 18 months ago when I first started collecting, I like how they have a buy now price and ship really quickly.

  8. There are some filthy traders on Trade Me at the moment with extremely insane prices on Limited edition and popular collections.

  9. $26.90 is the standard price now?! I thought it was just for the Katy Perrys... :( You can order the PotC for $15 from a seller in NZ.

  10. I definitely agree with that – OPI is a ridiculous price. I did buy DS Classic from Farmers, but only because I had a beauty club voucher, and it was out of stock at my usual e-tailer.

And Butter London being $30? There's no way I can justify paying that.

  11. The price increase is ridiculous! As people have said, $24.50 was already steep enough. I have use a lot of energy to convince myself to spend that much on OPI, however, I'm always willing to part with the $30 + for Butter London polishes.....
This is usually with the help of a sale discount or a voucher though

  12. Fred Meyer here in USA sells OPI for $8.50 each and I thought that was high. NZ price for polish is crazy.

  17. I ordered through a site called candy girl for my girlfriend (you can google it), they were legit and even called to tell me that they thought I must have made an error with my address (which i had!). Arrived quickly and well packaged, highly recommend. My girlfriend now uses them regularly (which sucks because now she knows that I only spent $17 a bottle for her present!!)
