Ozotic 915

I hope everyone had a good Christmas! It is super hot here at the moment so I am just trying not to over heat. We attempted some boxing day shopping today, but the crowds were insane, so we left empty handed and went back home to melt.

Ozotic 915 was my Christmas Day Manicure. It is a subtle green that didn't shout Christmas too loud.  915 is from the 2012 Scatter Chrome collection.

Ozotic 915 - shade (this is the most colour accurate photo)

Ozotic 915 - Sunshine

Ozotic 915 - Sunshine

This is three coats. It does not actually have any glitter in it, but is a metallic chrome polish which has scattered holographic particles in it.  It is also slightly duochrome moving from green to a blueish teal in the shade (which you can see in the first picture).  I really like this polish and it was fun to look at all day yesterday in the sun.

You can buy 915 and the three other polishes in this collection from piCture pOlish in Australia or Gracie Lou in New Zealand, as well as a bunch of other online retailers listed on the piCture pOlish website.

Deborah Lippmann Christmas in the City Gift set

Deborah Lippmann Christmas in the City
Left to Right: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Let it Snow!, Run, Run Rudolph

I bought this set from Nordstrom in America when I was there in October. Luckily they had started releasing Christmas polishes when we were over there.

Deborah Lippmann Let it Snow! - natural light

This is a thin white frost. This was four coats in this picture.  It looks very see through in the sunlight.  I think it may have turned out better with a white creme basecoat.

Deborah Lippmann Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (over black) - sunshine

This is two coats over a black creme. It is green and red small and medium sized glitter in a black jelly base.  This has a coat of gelous over it as it looks kind of matte and not shinny without it.

Deborah Lippmann Run, Run Rudolph - sunshine

This is two coats over a red creme. It is a shimmer red with red/gold flakies.  This is quite a thin polish and the flakies are quite scattered in the polish so they are hard to capture on camera.

Only one more sleep to go!

Candy Cane Nails

These candy cane nails are based on a tutorial and design from The Polishaholic, which you can find here.  This is three coats of Color Club Oooooo La La as the white base coat and OPI An Affair in Red Square as the red layered over the top.

I finished work on Friday for the next two weeks. I don't think I have had a Christmas break that long before.  And there is only 2 days left until Christmas! Fingers are crossed we will get a nice sunny day here in Wellington. Hope your all having a great holiday!

Color Club Blue Heaven

Color Club Blue Heaven - sunshine

Color Club Blue Heaven is the light blue holographic from the 2012 Halo Hues collection. This is two coats.   Look at how holo this is!

Unfortunately after a weekend of cleaning my nails are no longer this long. So swatching is on the back burner until they grow back a bit :(

Ruby Wing Festival

Festival is a new polish from the Ruby Wing polish line. I wore this yesterday to my work Christmas party.  Festival is a light multicoloured lilac glitter that in the sun changes into a dark deep multicoloured blue glitter.  Luckily it was a sunny day because the colour change in this is awesome to watch all day long.

Ruby Wing Festival - indoors

Ruby Wing Festival - outdoors

This was three coats. Coverage was good. I had no chips at the end of 24 hours with this on, using a coat of gelous and a coat of SV over top.  It is a glitter so was a pain to take off but it is so worth it to wear this pretty.  This polish is definitely in my top 10 for this year!

piCture pOlish Splash

Splash is one of the new glitters recently released by piCture pOlish as part of their glitter collection.

piCture pOlish Splash over Color Club Pure Energy - Shade

piCture pOlish Splash over Color Club Pure Energy - Sunshine

Here is 2 coats of piCture pOlish Splash over 2 coats of Color Club Pure Energy.  It is small and medium pieces of blue glitter in a clear base.  To be honest I wasn't overly impressed with Splash. It needed two coats just to get this light layer of glitter over the base layer.

Splash is available from piCture pOlish retailers, including Gracie Lou in New Zealand (NZ$13.50).

Color Club Cloud Nine

Color Club Cloud Nine - Sunshine

Cloud Nine is the light pink holographic polish released recently by Color Club as past of the Halo Hues collection.  It is a light pink linear holographic.  This is two coats.  It applies nicely and dries quickly.  The holographic-ness in this is very strong. Even indoors they look holographic and outside in the sun it blows your mind.

There was a lot of hype around the release of this collection in America. It was delayed for a time and we can only assume it was to perfect the formula or increase the production of this collection.  Halo Hues are available in North America now.  The plan is for them to be released early next year in New Zealand.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream

My Husband's work Christmas Ball (yes I said Ball, I am talking ball dresses and three course meals) was on last Saturday. I wore a full length mint coloured chiffon dress. For my nails I wore Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream, which is a perfect match for my dress.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream - natural light

This is a gorgeous light teal/mint green polish. It is a light teal (with a few bits of silver) micro glitter and has bigger bits of a darker teal/blue glitter.  This is three coats. It applies great, but being a glitter does take a bit of work to take off. I still have this on my toes at the moment and it is wearing well a week later.

piCture pOlish Sunset

"totally neon for anyone who dares!"

piCture pOlish Sunset is a highlighter neon orange crème polish.  Neon polishes are notoriously hard to capture on camera, and look different on ever computer screen.

piCture pOlish Sunset - Natural light

piCture pOlish Sunset - Sunshine

This is three coats. On my computer screen the picture in the Natural light is the most colour accurate.  Sunset is a pink toned orange.  It applied great, but it was difficult to tell how much polish was on the brush.  I think this is because the brush is a clear/white colour and soaks up the all the bright orange.

piCture pOlish is available from their website in Australia (with worldwide shipping), Gracie Lou in New Zealand, and check out this page here for other worldwide stockists.

Ruby Wing Zen Garden

"If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies." - Ruby Wing

Ruby Wing is a line of polishes released by the same people who make Color Club polishes a couple of months ago.  I was lucky enough to get given 6 of these polishes while I visited the Color Club factory in New York while I was on holiday at the start of October.  I know, I know I totally haven't blogged about that yet. I tried to, but it was so long ago that I cant really remember it any more.  But I will give you a quick summary here now.

I was extremely lucky to be able to have a tour of the Color Club Factory.  The Forsythe Cosmetics Group is a family run business, that started in 1979, and is about a 45 minute drive from the middle of New York.  They do everything all inside one building, from marketing, to developing the polishes, to hand sticking on the labels and shipping out the polishes.  Polishes are made to order, so there is not a huge pile up of stock, and a polish is continually produced when needed.  Not only are Color Club polishes produced here, but a range of other polishes with other brand names. I was amazed at how small the building was and how such a big player in the nail polish world could fit their entire production into the building.

Anywho here is some swatches of Ruby Wing Zen Garden. Ruby Wing polishes contain a unique photochromic compound that changes colour in UV light. So they are different colours outdoors and indoors.

Ruby Wing Zen Garden - Indoors

Ruby Wing Zen Garden - Outside

This is AMAZING! The polish starts off as a light lilac crème and once I stepped outside I saw it change and get darker and turn into a taupe crème.  I tried to get my husband to come outside and have a look, but he was not excited at all (unfortunately he doesn't understand the little things that make me happy). This is three coats, and the polish applied just like a regular crème polish.

You can get these polishes in New Zealand in Amazon Surf stores or online from USA Nails Online.  Those in America can purchase these polishes online from the Ruby Wing website.

Hare Why so Igneous?

Hare is the second independent brand I have tried out. I bought three polishes direct from Nikole and the Hare Etsy website.  Why so igneous is from the Where's Summer, B? collection released earlier this year.

Hare Why So Igneous? - Natural Light

This is three coats on its own.  Why so Igneous? has green and purple square glitter, with smaller green and purple hexagon glitter and a fine purple shimmer all in a purple tinted base.  Application was easy and I didn't have to go fishing in the bottle for bigger pieces of glitter.

Hare Why So Igneous? over Color Club Disco Dress - Natural Light

Hare Why So Igneous? over Color Club Disco Dress - Sunshine (a little bit)

This is three coats of Color Club Disco Dress with two coats of Hare Why so Igneous? I like it this way where it is being used as a top coat.

I have some more Hares coming to me in the mail, but this time from Llarowe. As Indie sellers become more popular they are harder and harder to get a hold of. :(

Butter London Dodgy Barnett

Yay! After the weather man promising sun for the last three days, we finally had some, and I managed to finish work on time and get home before sunset to capture these pictures of Butter London's Dodgy Barnett.

Dodgy Barnett is from the 2012 Butter London Autumn/Winter collection.  To be honest I am not quite sure why you would include Holographic polishes in a winter collection.  Its spring here at the moment an we barely get any sun, so I cant imagine winter in London having much sun.

Butter London Dodgy Barnett - sunshine

Close up of Butter London Dodgy Barnett

This is three coats. This one as not a one or two coater like a lot of other holographic polishes are these days.  Its quite thin so could actually be used as a holographic top coat over other polishes.  However it does have a significant amount of holo-ness so is totally worth getting.

I haven't spotted this one in New Zealand yet. There are very very few holographic polishes available in New Zealand, so if this one is spotted in Farmers, it may be worth paying the ridiculous retail price of $35 for one of these.

Deborah Lippmann Rock This Town Set

Rock This Town is a three piece set of metallic polishes by Deborah Lippmann that is exclusive to Nordstrom.  I bought this set while I was on holiday in America, actually this exact set came from Vegas.

Deborah Lippmann Moon Dance - Natural Light

Moon Dance is described as a deep lavender swirl (glimmer).  This is three coats.  To be honest I am not a fan. It is thin and has a grey base to it.  It has lavender glitter and a smaller amount of copper glitter.

Deborah Lippmann Chain Reaction - Natural Light

Chain Reaction is described as a dirty brass (glimmer).  This one did have a dirty base colour, kind of a grey/green mix and is full of grassy green glitter.  This is three coats.

Deborah Lippmann Phoenix Rising - Natural Light

Phoenix Rising is described as a foxy copper (glimmer).  Interesting descriptions really aren't they?  This is my favourite of the three. This is three coats. This one has a pinky orange base and is full of copper and gold glitter.

Spotted in NZ: OPI Skyfall

Today in Farmers I spotted the new OPI James Bond Skyfall collection.

This collection has 12 regular polishes retailing for $27.  I bought a couple of these already on my holiday which I will swatch a bit later on.

Farmers also had the Real 18K Gold top coat. But I almost cried a little inside when I saw the price. A whopping NZ$74 for this polish. Also another thing I am glad I bought in America before coming back home.

Last of all Farmers had the OPI Magnetic polishes in stock. Again I was totally surprised when I turned it over and saw the price. NZ$40. That is for ONE polish. I could not believe it! Please do not waste $40 on one of these polishes if you are in NZ! There are much cheaper alternatives. Look on the Color Club NZ website and fins someone stocking their magnetic polishes. They are under $20 each.
