Color Club Cosmic Fate + Comparisons

Cosmic fate is the last polish I have to chow you from the 2013 Color Club Halo Hues collection.  The final three polishes in the collection are Beyond (Black), Kismet (Green) and Eternal Beauty (Purple).

Color Club Cosmic Fate - Shade

This is three coats, altougyh two would be perfectly adequate.  Like the other Halo Hues polishes, this has a thinner formula, that applies easily and gives good coverage.  This is a pure orange holographic. It doesnt seem too pink or too yellow, and because of that is quite unique in my collection.

And here is a comparison with all my other orange/peach holographic polishes. 

It is hard to see here, but Cosmic Fate is the purest orange I have. The other polishes either lean more pink or more yellow.

Color Club Miss Bliss + Comparisons

What is better, when today is absolutely pouring with rain and there is thunder and lightening, than looking at swatch pictures I took yesterday when it was so sunny you could wear holos and have rainbows on your fingers?  Actually it is kind of depressing because I know it is going to be a while before it is that sunny again.

Miss Bliss is the medium pink holographic polish released in the second batch of Color Club Halo Hues at the start of this year.  This is three coats, but like Over the Moon yesterday, you can easily get away with two.  The formula on this is slightly on the thin side, but applies easily and dries very quickly.  Again, these polishes don't look very impressive in the shade, but in the sun they are amazing!

Here is some comparisons of my medium pink holographic polishes. Color Club Miss Bliss is clearly the most holographic.  It also gives good coverage, as you can not see through the swatch stick like you can with many of the other polishes in this picture.

Color Club Over the Moon + Comparisons

WE HAD SOME SUN TODAY!!!!!!

Its almost winter here, and pretty unusual for us to have a sunny weekend day at the moment. (Although it is pouring with rain now).  So I figured it was time to swatch some holographic polishes.

Color Club Over the Moon - Shade

Over the Moon is the blue holographic polish from the 2013 release of the Color Club Halo Hues. This newer set of 6 polishes, were darker than the first set released.  This is three coats, although two would be fine - I just am obsessive compulsive about doing three coats.  The formula on these are on the thin side, but are easy to apply and dry quickly.  The above photos clearly show the difference that sunlight makes to the appearance of this polish.  In the sunlight it is an awesomely strong holographic rainbow.  

Below is a comparison with some of my other blue holographic polishes. 

All swatches are three coats. 

You can see that in the sunlight the two Color Club holos give the most coverage and are the most opaque of the polishes. Over the Moon is unique amoungst my 100 holographic polishes.

Lilac Holographic Comparisons + bonus kitten pic

So I have 6 lilac holographic polishes in my collection - and none of them are dupes. YAY this makes me feel good because then I don't feel guilty about having any double ups :)

These are all three coats, however most holographic polishes only need 2 coats.  IDK is the only linear holographic polish in my lilac collection. Fashion Addict is by far the lightest. Princess Tears flashes a grey green duochrome in certain lights.

Orly Bubbly Bombshell

Bubbly Bombshell was my mani to my Fiances Christmas work do on Saturday night.

This is a bright pink fuchsia glitter in a clear base. There are actually two sizes of glitter in this, a smallish one and then a bigger rounder one. This is three coats, but its still got quite a bit of nail showing through and tips are really hard to wrap with a glitter polish.

Here is a picture of Nubar Petunia Sparkle for comparison. They are almost exact matches for colour, but Petunia Sparkle only has one sized glitter and has a more matte appearance.

Orly Frisky + Comparison

Orly frisky is from the 2011 Happy Go Lucky collection.

Farmers had by one get one free on Orly the other day and I had a $20 voucher so I paid $5 for two Orly polishes :) I love sales and vouchers.

Orly Frisky - Natural Light

The formula on this is great. This is 2 coats, and that it all that is needed. Dries at an average time and wears well.

I did some nail art over the top of Frisky. The Sparkles are Esseence. The first finger is stamped using an Essence plate and China Glaze DV8. Third finger is layered with Color Club Si Vous Please!

I ended up wearing Orly Frisky covered in Color Club Si Vous Please! on all fingers to work on Monday.

Orly Frisky and China Glaze For Audrey look pretty close to each other. For Audrey used three coats, compared to Frisky's one coat. For Audrey is slightly lighter and a bit more dustier toned. Frisky is brighter and bluer. I wasn't a fan of For Audrey but I really like Frisky, which is odd considering they are so close to each other.

Color Club Factory Girl + Comparison + Glitter

This is another polish from Color Clubs Poptastic Collection. These are still on sale in New Zealand at www.usanailsonline.co.nz for only NZ$8.90.

Color Club Factory Girl - Sunshine

Factory girl starts of sheer but after three coats is fine. It is a light blue creme polish with a smooth finish. Dry time was good and wear was good as well.

I thought I'd do a comparison of some other light blue creme polishes to show you what it is like.
Here is a comparison between Color Club Factory Girl, OPI Whats with the Cattitude? and Color Club Take me to your Chateau.

Factory Girl and Cattitude are both three coats. These too are the closest in colour to each other. I think that the OPI polish has a nicer formula, where theirs are slightly jelly-ish. Color Club Take me to your chateau is much lighter. This one was only two coats. It is a much thicker creamier polish that needs less coats to reach opaqueness. My favourite of the three is OPI whats with the cattitude? It has a nicer formula than the other two.

I then covered the comparison in OPI Last Friday Night from the Katy Perry Collection. I love this jelly glitter as a top coat over blue polishes. I think it works well with all three of these blues. Here the lighter blue of take me to your chateau works very well - but this polish is designed to go with a glitter top coat (Color Club Si Vous Please!)

OPI Show it and Glow it! + comparison

I love glitter - I also love Fuchsia Polishes so OPI Show it and Glow it was something I was really looking forward to.

Show it and glow it is a pink fuchsia glitter in a clear base, with extra silver and blue glitter. These photos are all 3 coats. I like that these polishes only need three coats to be completely opaque. Again it is a pain to take off - but after staring at your fingers all day long you wont want to. These sparkle best in the sun, but are pretty all day long. I love this glitter collection by OPI.

Sitting on my desk with my untrieds and polishes I'm working on was Sephora by OPI It's Bouquet with me (this was one of the polishes my mum bought back from America for me :)). Looks kind of similar huh?......

OPI Show It and Glow It! and Sephora by OPI It's Bouquet with me.

Both polishes are three coats in this picture. They are not dupes. They are both in clear bases but the glitter in It's Bouquet with me is much sparser and the glitter is different sizes, unlike Show it and Glow it! which is all one size. Show it and Glow it also has more colours and depth to it. I think It's Bouquet with me is more of a top coat than a stand alone polish, due to the sparseness of the glitter, which doesn't give an opaque coverage. To be honest Show it and Glow it is my favourite, and it is more versatile, as it can be used alone or as a top coat.

Zoya Poppy vs OPI Melon of Troy

So I was trying out some of my untried zoya's (actually almost all of my zoya's are untried, I guess I don't really enjoy any of them as much as I thought I would when I went crazy buying them in America) and I got out Zoya Poppy and thought "ohhh that's a pretty colour - I'll try that"

It is a cute orange peach coral colour from the Bouquet collection. This is three coats and went on perfectly fine. But while I was doing this manicure I kept thinking "I have used this colour not very long ago - it is so similar to Melon of Troy"

So here it is (I redid this on a sunny day so it looks better than the last post in which I posted this here)

OPI Melon of Troy - Sunshine

Melon of Troy is from the 2004 Greek isles collection but is now part of the regular collection so luckily it is easy to get. This is three coats aswell. I find OPI's easier to apply because of the prowide brush.

The light here is slightly different from the light Poppy's photo was taken in (weird because they were on the same day in the same place, but somehow Poppy is in more yellow light) so here is a comparison of each polish on the same hand

Can you tell the difference? It is pretty hard to. I think Poppy is very slightly more yellow than Melon of Troy and Poppy looks slightly more opaque.

I definitely don't think you need both of these (unless you are like me and forget/don't realize you have one before you buy the other). I wouldn't go as far to call them 'dupes' but they are pretty close.

Posts may become a little more infrequent over the next two weeks as I officially hand in my thesis on Thursday the 30th, and I have a lot of work to go before then :S

Coral Peach Holo Comparison

Taking a step back from the Neons today (there will be more later in the week) and here is another Holographic Comparison for you.

Left to Right: OPI Bay Bridge Sunset, China Glaze TTYL, OPI DS Reserve

First up is OPI Bay Bridge Sunset. This is one of the very sought after polishes from the Japanese Exclusive Yokohama Collection. I am working on getting more from this collection, but when they are asking for US$30-$40 for each bottle on ebay, I have to say No. That is flat out ridiculous, and I hope they stay on there forever and never sell, because no polish is worth that much. Luckily one of my bridesmaids is going to Japan in November so fingers crossed she can find some then. :)

OPI Bay Bridge Sunset - sunshine

This has a scattered holographic effect. 2 coats, that went on perfectly. It looks like it is full of glitter dust, and is very pretty.

Second is China Glaze TTYL. Now I don't actually know what TTYL stands for (naive I know - sorry) But if you know what it means please let me know :)

China Glaze TTYL - sunshine

As you all know by now I Love the China Glaze OMG Collection. This is 2 coats, which apply easy and dry fast. The holographic is this is linear (straight lined) and appears to make each finger look like a little rainbow in the sun. This one has the strongest holographic-ness of the three polishes (but that may just be because it is easier to see because it isn't scattered out).

The final polish is OPI Reserve from the Designer Collection. I saw some of these on ebay going for quite high prices as well, I think I bought most of mine a year ago and I paid regular prices for mine, so I'm not sure why this is happening.

OPI DS Reserve - sunshine

Designer Series polishes are said to have "Diamond Dust" in them, creating the holographic effect. This is again a scattered, slightly muted, holographic appearance. I thought it might have been a bit pinker than the other too, but it isn't really. Again 2 coats, that applied easily and dry time was average.

Finally is the side by side comparison:

You can clearly see the difference between the China Glaze linear holographic and the scatter holographic of the other two OPI polishes. DS Reserve has bigger glitter and holographic particles than Bay Bridge Sunset. All three have a very similar colour appearance.

My recommendation would depend on how holographic you want your polishes to be. If you want the in your face holographic - you would go for the China Glaze (this is still the easiest and cheapest of the three to get). DS Reserve may be easier to get than Bay Bridge Sunset, so eiter is fine if you can get it.

Lilac Holo Comparison

Ive been working on this for a while now but everytime I went to do it the sun would disappear - finally on Sunday we had a day full of sun!!!!

Left to Right - OPI DS Original, China Glaze IDK, OPI Sand-erella

First up is China Glaze IDK. As you all know by now the China Glaze OMG Collection is my most favourite collection ever. This is two coats but if your in a hurry 1 coat is ok, but two evens it out perfectly. The holographic-ness of this polish is almost always visible (although not so much when you look at the bottle). It glides on the nail so easily and requires no clean up. I LOVE IT

OPI Sand-erella - sunshine

OPI Sand-erella is from the Summer For Shore Collection from 2003. I looked on ebay and they are selling for around US$18 each and is classed as a HTF (Hard to find) polish. This here is 4 coats! The fist few coats are very sheer and to get the colour darker and more like it is in the bottle you need more coats. The holograhic effect of this polish is more spread out and looks more like little scattered bits of glitter. This bottle does show the holographic-ness all the time.

OPI DS Original - sunshine

This is OPI original from the Designer Series. This is 3 coats. It is slightly darker than Sand-erella. Again the holographic-ness is scattered and spread out. One problem I had was while I was trying to open the bottle the silver coating on the handle all started rubbing off onto my hands - not cool. now my bottle lid is a patchy silver and black :(

And a side by side comparison:

Left to Right - OPI DS original, China Glaze IDK, OPI Sand-erella

IDK is more blue toned than the two OPI polishes. The glitter apperance in DS original is slightly bigger than that of sand-erella. Both of these have a scattered appearance where as IDK seems to make a cute smooth rainbow of holographic-ness (like all of the OMG collection does).

IDK is the easiest to get a hold of out of these three polishes, and takes less coats to apply. Sand-erella and Original are HTF polishes and will cost a bit more (I think this is due to the fact that they are older polishes than IDK is and therefore rarer).

My favourite is always going to be China Glaze's IDK.

Yellow Creme Comparison

Hi all, Hows your weekend going?
Yay the sun came out for a little while today! So I finally have something new to post

Today it is light yellow creme polishes

Left to Right - OPI Fiercly Fiona, Orly Spark, OPI Banana Bandanna, Miki B03510

Orly Spark

This is from the Orly Hot Stuff collection. Spark applied crappy. I think this ended up being 4 coats. The first few were runny and icky and to even it out I had to apply more and then they were going on thickly and I was just getting frustrated. I still didn't have even coverage after the 4 coats. Another thing that bugged me about this polish was how thin the brushes are (It may be because I am so used to the OPI Pro-wide brush) but this made application harder again.

OPI Fiercely Fiona

From the OPI Shrek Forever After Collection. My first review of Fiercely Fiona can be found here. This one only needs three coats for an even finish.

OPI Banana Bandanna

Again this is so much easier to apply thanks to the OPI Pro-wide brush. It gives a much much smoother finish and takes less coats to become even and smooth. This was three coats (I think this is sort of a minimum for light yellow cremes).

Miki B03510

This is a horrible polish to apply (see my first Miki review here). Although after doing all of these yellow polishes I have to say most of them are not application friendly at all.

I was surprised to see that Fiercely Fiona and Spark were the closest to each other. In the bottles Fiercely Fiona looks slightly greener but on the nail they are almost identical.

My favourite though has to be OPI Banana Bandanna - it is the easiest and smoothest to apply.

My poor pussy cat is still feeling lost and confused. The cone on her head has really thrown her. I think she thinks that is the reason she cant get out the cat door - which is really frustrating her (shes actually not allowed outside so that she doesn't catch any kind of infection - but you cant explain that to a cat). She just sits at the cat door meowing and looking sad.
