Spotted in NZ: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Just spotted these at Farmers in Wellington. The other Lisa wasn't with me today so this is taken on my phone camera. I dont have an iphone so its not the best picture sorry. Looks like there are 14 polishes in the range released here. The colours didn't look overly exciting, so I didn't buy any. I could not for the life of me find the price of these polishes. In New Zealand stores don't usually stick price stickers to products, instead you have to search the shelves for a label with the price.
Farmers has Sally Hansen at 20% off at the moment.
They also have Orly for $16.99.
And you can get a free OPI shatter polish when you purchase two other full price OPI polishes.

Orly Here Comes Trouble

This is one of the polishes I picked up the other day from the Pin Up collection.

Orly Here Comes Trouble - Natural Light

Orly Here Comes Trouble - Sunshine

This is three coats. It has two different sizes of green glitter. The problem is that it has a funny yellow green base that appears in the gaps not coated in glitter. I think it is better as a top coat to avoid the funny green base coat.

Orly Here Comes Trouble over Black - Natural Light

Here is two coats over black. I love this.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Spotted in NZ: Orly Pin Up Collection

Spotted these at Farmers today.

I picked up the two glitters, Bubble Bombshell (the Purple/Fuchsia glitter) and Here comes Trouble (The grass green glitter). I cant wait to try them out. Hopefully well get some sun over the weekend and I can do some swatching.

Farmers have put the price of their Orly polishes up to $24.99 now.
Luckily I had some gift vouchers because there is no way I would pay that much for a polish.

Spotted in NZ: Orly Birds of a Feather

The Orly Birds of a Feather collection has made it to New Zealand

Finally New Zealand is starting to get polishes not long after they release over seas - (unlike the six months we normally wait) Although as I am typing this I realise we still haven't had the Orly Cosmic FX collection here.

Orly Birds as a Feather Collection
  • Fowl Play (purple sparkle)
  • Lucky Duck (green creme)
  • Nite Owl (beige shimmer)
  • Peachy Parrot (coral shimmer)
  • Sea Gurl (grey shimmer)
  • Sweet Peacock (blue shimmer)
I saw these in Farmers yesterday. They had a full untouched display. I think these sell for about $23 each. I like to wait until Farmers had buy one get on free on Orly - which they some times do, unlike the meager 15% the have off OPI.

I didn't pick any up myself. Fowl play looks like a pretty close match to OPI Merry midnight, but as I own this already I didn't think I needed two. None of the other really stood out to me.

I was hoping that New Zealand would be getting Orly's Pin-up and Happy Go Lucky mini collections as these are much more my colours, that a bright and glittery.

NZ Beauty Expo Part 2

Beauty Expo Part 2 continues from the Color Club booth

Here Color Club were debuting their Fractured collection which is due to arrive on the ship from America at the end of the month. They were also selling their new summer collection Wicked Sweet, which is the fruity scented polishes, their Untamed Luxury winter collection in the 7 piece packs, as well as all the polishes from their large standard colour range.

I picked up the rest of the Wicked Sweet polishes I was missing from my collection, as well as some older polishes from the Femme Fatal and Catwalk Queen collections.

Unfortunately I didn't get any of the Fractured polishes, but Steph got Tattered in Gold and you can check out her post on that here.

There was a couple of blokes selling Jessica polishes along with their salon supplies. They seemed like a hard case, and were completely unsure about selling these polishes. I picked up a dark blue shimmer called Midnight Moonlight and a pearl shimmer called Chic. I have never seen Jessica polishes in New Zealand before. If you are interested in getting any of these send me an email and I can pass it on to the suppliers.

That was about it in the way of Nail Polishes. Lots of companies were selling gel polishes and were aiming these at salon owners.

What was notably missing from this expo was Global Beauty who are the New Zealand distributors of OPI. To be honest this doesn't stand the company in good steed in my opinion. I think they should have been there. Especially as the expo is aimed at beauty salon owners, who may stock OPI. It just seems a little arrogant to me.

Also missing from the expo but available in New Zealand was Orly, Essie and Butter London.

All in all I had a great time. I loved meeting Steph and her mum, as well as the great people (you know who you are!) at the Color Club booth, who I ended up helping out on the second day while I waited for my flight back home.

I cant wait for the next expo.

P.S. I burnt my hand really bad on some steam whilst helping my mum cook dinner today, so I am typing this one handed and an in a tonne of pain. It is also the finger tips of my left hand so there will be no swatches (maybe even posts) for a while, while I recover from blisters and huge amounts of pain. Ive had ice on it for 2 hours already and it still hurts heaps!!!!

Orly Lift the Veil

Orly Lift the Veil comes free with a new subscription of the New Zealand Bride and Groom magazine, for the current issue.

Orly Lift the Veil - White light

This is three coats. Its a light pink creme polish - it is very slightly darker than it appears in the photo above. I found this to be very thin. It is in no way a unique colour, as every brand has a range of light pinks to pick from.

I am not thinking of wearing a light pink on my nails when I get married. I haven't decided whether I go with the colour theme and have light teal colours on my nails or a nice shimmery white - it depends on what colour my dress is. Argh I don't know!!

Orly Velvet

This is the only polish I got from Orly's Precious collection. This was released about a month ago in New Zealand and is available from Farmers (although all the ones I have visited lately have been sold out of Royal Velvet)

Orly Royal Velvet - White Light

This is amazing! It shimmers blue and teal and is a dark purple base. The picture doesn't do it justice. It needs to be worn and admired all day long. It is a huge distraction.

This is three coats. It is a thin polish and doesn't look very good at all until the colour is built up with more layers. I was wearing this with a base coat and Seche Vite on top and had a few little chips after 1 day.

I thought about adding a glitter top coat and extending it for tomorrow, but I couldn't cover it up. Haha so instead I took it off and am now tossing up between wearning China Glaze Strawberry fields or an untried.

Free Nail Polishes with Bride and Groom Magazine

What is better than free nail polish????

Lets be honest..... Nothing is really

Bride & Groom Magazine in New Zealand is giving subscribers two free full sized Orly nail polishes when you renew or start a subscription.

Orly Cut the Cake and Lift the Veil

The good news is a 1 year subscription is only $40 (saving about $24 a year) and you get two free polishes which retail in New Zealand from around $23 each. Bargain!

Lucky for me my subscription ran out with the most recent issue, so I re-subscribed last week, and got home to find my two new nail polishes in my letterbox. My next issue of Bride & Groom wont arrive until August though.

Spotted in NZ: Orly Precious

I failed.

I broke my no buy.

Me and Lisa went out to the movies and before it started we went shopping. Not a good idea when on a no buy with your best friend who also loves nail polish as much as you do.

Farmers had a full display of the new Orly Precious collection.

In my defence Farmers was selling Orly polishes at buy one get one free. How can you turn that down? We both got a bottle of Royal Velvet each.

Hope your Easters are going well.

My Top 10 of 2010

Happy holidays fellow nail polish addicts! Hope you all had a great Christmas and a gearing up for a great new year.

I thought I would share my top 10 polishes of 2010 with you. I have limited this to polishes released in 2010 and ones that I personally own.

(Please note that in some of the swatches below I am wearing fake nails. This is not my standard practice but is due to sever breakages in my nails from the holiday season and all the gardening I have been doing - when I say gardening I really mean weeding.)

These are in no particular order

1. Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance - This one was bought online as DL is not sold in New Zealand. It costs about NZ$40 but was worth every dollar. A black base with hexagon purple glitter and smaller regular purple glitter. Done in two coats and a great vampy polish.

2. Orly Meet me under the Mistletoe - Recently released as part of Orly's Christmas collection called 'Tis the Season. Luckily these came to New Zealand stores in time for Christmas (all our other Orly collections are 6 months behind). A great glass effect green with golden shimmer. Really pretty and my favourite of all the Christmas polishes this year.

3. BYS Down the Rabbit Hole - One of three Alice in Wonderland themed polishes released in New Zealand and Australia by BYS. These are supper affordable and easy to find in New Zealand. The smell is a bit iffy but apart from that they are great. This is a black jelly base with holographic sparkles.

4. Orly Out of this world - from the 2010 Cosmic FX collection. There was a lot of hype around this whole collection and in my opinion it didn't disappoint. It sort of kicked of the era of 'glass effect' polishes and the start of the duo-chrome phase. This is a great purple (the picture doesnt do it justice). It is hard to describe all the colours you can see in the different lights for this one, even just moving the bottle in your hands is awesome.

5. Nubar Star Sparkle - part of the 2010 Sparkle collection. Another one of my online purchases as these are not sold in New Zealand. This is an awesome silver glitter packed full of sparkle. Some silver glitters are just silver (like Zoya Luna) but this one sparkles a whole rainbow in the sun.

6. OPI Glow up already - this is from the 2010 OPI Holiday collection Burlesque. OPI's Mad as a Hatter started of the glitter craze this year, and OPI actually listened and included 6 more in this collection. My favourite of all the glitters is this one. Its a lime green colour, with a smattering of pink, blue, silver and orange glitter. These glitters are all done in 3 coats, but are a pain in the ass to take off (But worth it for their amazingness).

7. Color Club Wild at Heart - This was part of the Wild at Heart collection which was released in New Zealand for winter 2010. This was the stand out holographic of the season. A dark purple holographic polish, that only needed one/two coats.

8. OPI Let Me Entertain You - also from the OPI Burlesque collection. This was my favourite of the 6 non glitter polishes. I am still a sucker for pinks and fuchsia polishes any day. Again this is a 'glass effect' polish, but it is super pretty.

9. OPI Catch Me in Your Net/Orly Halley's Comet - How could I not include these two in the list. Catch me in your net came first and was released as part of OPIs Summer Flutter mini collection at the start of the year. Orly's Halley's Comet came later on in winter as part of the Cosmic FX collection. Both are dupes and there is also a Zoya dupe (charla) and an essence dupe. This is in my top 10 for 2010 but unfortunately would not make my overall top 10.

10. Color Club Poptastic - The bright neon pink creme from the Color Club Poptastic collection. Released a couple of months ago in New Zealand (and retailing for NZ$16). This collection goes great with summer fashion this year and makes your nails stand out. I also love Peppermint Twist from this collection, but have not yet swatched it)

Honorable mentions also go to the Mac Venomous Villains Collection, China Glaze Jolly Holly, OPI Mad as a Hatter, OPI Show it and Glow it!, Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe and the Milani 3D Holographic Series.

So there it is. My top 2010 polishes. It was a great year polish wise and I cant wait to see what 2011 brings - I'm sure it will be great with the OPI Katy Perry collection due out in January, China Glazes Tronica holographic collection, and the upcoming Pardon my French collection from Color Club (in New Zealand).

Lisa

P.S please let me know your feelings on the pictures in which I have the fake nails on.

Orly Meet Me Under The Mistletoe + Konad

OMG...........This is beautiful! It has earned a spot in my top 10 for the year. I don't think much needs to be said about this. If you can get it I recommend it before it is too late. (This is available in New Zealand at Farmers)

Orly Meet Me Under The Mistletoe - Outside in Shade

It has so much depth. In some lights it had yellow/gold glitter appearing and in others its a blue/teal colour. A great polish that only needs two coats.

It is the middle of summer here and we don't have a white Christmas, so just for all my Northern hemisphere readers I added some konad snowflakes from plate m59 using silver konad polish.

Orly Winter Wonderland

I almost didn't buy this polish. I had originally grabbed the plummy colour Rockin' Rocket, but at the last minute changed my mind and picked up Winter Wonderland. I am glad I did.

Orly Winter Wonderland - Shade

This picture was taken in the sun as it is more accurate than in the sun. This is three coats. Each coat makes it more opaque and darker. This is another one of those glass fleck polishes out lately (especially by Orly) and I like it because it looks like snow. It is the prefect polish for Christmas and winter, and the name is very appropriate.

I ended up wearing this on Saturday night to Chris's work Christmas party. The theme was black and white musical. Most people were just going with the black and white theme. My dress was a long black ball dress (sorry no pics), so I wore white nails as I didn't want my nails to be too outlandish and black with all the people he works with (about 150 accountants!!).

Spotted in NZ: Orly 'Tis the Season

I am so glad the Orly is developing a bigger presence in New Zealand and that they released the Christmas collection at the correct time here (unlike their other collections that we get 6 months late). 2 hours ago I discovered the whole entire Orly 'Tis the Season Collection at Farmers - It hadn't even been touched yet.

Left to Right: Candy Cane Lane, Glitz & Glamour, Naughty or Nice, Rockin' Rocket, Winter Wonderland, Meet me under the Mistletoe.

Orly polishes retail for NZ$22.99 each but are on sale at the moment at Farmers for 2 for $24.98!!!! AWESOME. I picked up two of these today: Meet me under the mistletoe and Winter Wonderland. Swatches to come later.

Orly has also released this whole collection as a set of mini polishes. You can get three of these for $24.99 at Farmers at the moment. I'm not 100% sure on the regular price but I think they are about $10 each.

Orly Cosmic FX

Orly Space Cadet - sunshine

This one is four coats. It is the most sheer of the six polishes. It actually has a teal blue base which disappears with each additional coat. It is funny to look at when you take it off because it separates into the teal base and the orange glitter on the cotton pad. The duo-chrome flashes teal/orange and red. It is an odd combination. This is the "dupe" for Mac's Mean & Green from the Venomous Villains Collection. The Orly version is easier to work with as the brush is normal and much easier to hold.

Orly Out of this World - sunshine

This one is actually a surprise stunner of the group. From the outside of the bottle it doesn't look too exciting but once you put it on you will be mesmerized. It is a dark vampy shimmer purple. The picture does not do it justice. This one isn't so much of a duo-chrome, but does have a nice shimmer and subtle pink touch to it. This was three coats. This is a polish I will be wearing lots next winter. It is stunning.

Orly Lunar Eclipse - sunshine

My second favourite from the Cosmic FX collection. This is a stunning shimmery blue that in the right light shines a purple/fuchsia colour. This is really hard to capture on camera, but is very easily seen from the outside of the bottle. Again not so much of a duo-chrome as some of the others but a very pretty shimmer with the glass fleck that they were aiming for. This one needs to be seen in real life.

Orly It's not Rocket Science - sunshine

This three coats. Again another polish that doesn't have the duo-chrome effect and is more just a snot green colour (sorry but that is what it reminds me off). It does have the glass fleck and a slight teal flash to it, but really is just a mossy green colour.

Orly Halley's Comet - sunshine

Three coats. Again no duo-chrome just a straight bright blue colour. It does have the glass fleck though. This would be a really pretty polish had it not been seen so much already. This polish has a lot of known "dupes", such as OPI Catch me in your Net. There is also an essence dupe (not available in New Zealand) and Zoya Charla.

Orly Galaxy Girl - sunshine

This is also three coats. This is purple with a teal duo-chrome to it. Again it is easily seen on the outside of the bottle. This is the dupe for Mac's Formidable! also from the Venomous Villains Collection.

My favourites in this collection are the ones that don't have "dupes" available for them. At least they are unique and pretty.

All polishes went on easily with no clean up needed. All three coats (except for Space Cadet which I used 4 for).

These are still not in shops in New Zealand, but keep an eye out in Farmers stores as that's where Orly is being sold now.

Lots of Love
Lisa
