Lilac Holographic Comparisons + bonus kitten pic

So I have 6 lilac holographic polishes in my collection - and none of them are dupes. YAY this makes me feel good because then I don't feel guilty about having any double ups :)

 My Lilac Holographic Collection

1. A England Princcess Tears
2. China Glaze IDK
3. Color Club Fashion Addict
4. Milani Hi-Res
5. OPI Designer Series Original
6. OPI Sanderella

These are all three coats, however most holographic polishes only need 2 coats.  IDK is the only linear holographic polish in my lilac collection. Fashion Addict is by far the lightest. Princess Tears flashes a grey green duochrome in certain lights.

And a bonus picture of our new kitten, Cooper who is about 14 weeks old now.

A England Princess Tears

A England Princess Tears - Sunshine
A England Princess Tears - Sunshine
A England Princess Tears - Sunshine
A England Princess Tears - Shade

Princess Tears is from the 2012 The Legend Collection from A England. All of the A England polishes have a story behind them. This is from the A England website:

PRINCESS TEARS - Upon being tied to a tree, there to await her fate, the princess shed glistening tears of everlasting sorrow.
As the twin lilac trails of tears stream with an incandescent glow down our doomed heroine's face, they are made even more poignant by luminous grey/ green flashes.

A England is a light lilac purple which flashes a green grey duochrome colour in the bottle. In the sun it is an amazing lilac rainbow. However in the shade this polish isn't very exciting.  Luckily it was sunny today so I was able to appreciate the holographic awesomeness of this polish. This is two coats. The formula on this polish is amazing. It applies beautifully.

A England Saint George

Unfortunately my nails are taking a while longer than I hoped to recover, so at the moment they are supper short nubbins. But nubbins look great in dark colours so I thought since it was sunny today when I got home from work I would try out A England Saint George.

This polish has got to be one of my all time favourites ever! And in a collection of almost 600 polishes this is a big deal.

A England released the Legend collection at the start of this year. It contains 7 polishes, 6 of which are holographic.

According to the A England website Saint George was a:

Bearer of a valiant & courageous heart, this fathomless teal reveals the strength of the brave knight's convictions with his gleaming, fiery core.

A England Saint George - Sunshine

A England Saint George - Shade

This is a dark teal polish that in the sun sparkles an awesome rainbow. I had to compress these pictures so you cant see the rainbows as well as you can in real life. This is two coats, although you could get away with just one. The formula is perfect and dry time is quick. A England polishes always seem to have great forumlas and are super easy to apply.

A England polishes are available from the website http://www.a-england.co.uk/9-the-legend. Shipping is quite often free and is super fast (especially all the way to New Zealand). These work out to be about NZ$17 a polish.

A England Tristam

A England Tristam doesn't really need many words. It is simply just amazing.

A England Tristam - Sunshine

A England Tristam - Sunshine

Tristam - the courteous knight

The symbol of the knightly virtue, and romantic love. When Tristam and Iseult accidentally consume a love potion, fall helplessly in love. Despite facing numerous trials to test their secret affair their love was never known to fade.

Tristam is a deep dark blue holographic polish. Enlarge the pictures in the sun by clicking on them to see how beautiful this really is. I think its great to see more darker colours being made into holographic polishes.

This is two coats. A England is quickly becoming one of my favourite brands for formula. All only need two coats and apply like a dream.

A England also have great customer service, and sometimes even offer free around the world shipping. It also didn't take them long to get to New Zealand (less than a week, compared to another brand in the UK that took a month to arrive here in NZ)

Glitter Gal Marine Blue

There was a tiny little bit of sun yesterday so I quickly swatched Glitter Gal Marine Blue from the 3D Holographic collection. I can not wait for summer so I can wear more holographic polishes.

Glitter Gal 3D holographic Marine Blue - Sunshine

This is a medium blue. This was two coats. Unfortunately the holo-ness of this polish didn't transfer well into the photographs, as it is much more visible in real life. The holographic particles are linear and form rainbows in a line, as opposed to scattered all over the place. The polish was easy to apply, even though they are in little bottles (9mls). The brush is still a decent length to make application easy. Dry time was quick. I find holographic polishes don't take as long to dry as regular polishes.

Color Club Worth the Risque + Snow!

OMG! It snowed in Wellington. I have lived my whole life here (25 years) and it has never ever snowed!

It started about 4pm on Sunday afternoon. There was still snow outside my house when I got the bus to work in the morning and then about 11am it started snowing again! It has been snowing on and off all day since.

Here is a picture of my mum and dads house.
Its about 15 minutes from where I live.
They were brave enough to go outside and take pictures.

This is a huge deal in our part of the country. The novelty has not worn off for me yet.

So to celebrate this awesome snow I just finished this mani tonight to wear to work tomorrow. By the way its going to be just as cold any yuck tomorrow....this means more snow.

Color Clubs Worth the Risque is a silver holographic from the 2009 Femme Fatal collection.

Color Club Worth the Risque - crappy indoor night time lighting

Unfortunately because it is 10pm at night you cant see the holo-y goodness that is this polish. This is two coats. Application and dry time were great. Even at night I can see the holo in this polish. It is a linear holographic, where the holo rainbows appear in lines on the nail as opposed to scattered all about.

I topped this off with some snowflakes done using Konad plate m59 and Black konad special polish. Its a shame that I only own two different snowflakes, as you end up repeating the same ones over again.

If your in New Zealand I hope you are enjoying the snow too!

Milani Cyberspace

I had a terrible day at work yesterday and am really still upset. My nails are naked and I cant think of any polish I want to put on that will cheer me up even a little. Today is Saturday but one of my best friends is having a house warming so I have to go and see everyone from work there and I am so not looking forward to it.

This is a mani from last week. It is two coats of Milani Cyberspace over two coats of OPI Whats with the Cattitude?

Milani Cyberspace over OPI Whats with the Cattitude? - white light

It is still winter here so there isn't any sun (in fact they are predicting snow where there isn't usually snow tomorrow), but this is holographic and i liked the softness of the light blue. I think the creme polish underneath helped make the holographic on top seem cleaner and nicer.

Glitter Gal Not Another Red

Glitter Gal truly is Australia at its finest.

Glitter Gal Not Another Red - sunshine

OMG! These polishes are AMAZING!!!!
Even compressed these pictures show how amazing the polish is in the sunshine.

These are only 9ml polishes and look teeny tiny next to a regular sized polish, but lets be honest - who uses a whole bottle of polish up anyway. The brush is still a good size and length and makes the polish easy to apply. I didn't need any clean up after this.

These are now being sold in New Zealand on trade me, or through the email polishqueennz@gmail.com.

China Glaze Mega Bite

China Glaze Mega Bite - Sunshine

This is another holographic China Glaze polish from the 2011 Tronica collection. This is two coats and dries quickly. Enlarge the picture to see the holographic-ness better. These are not the holo-ist of polishes but they are still great to wear. Its just a shame it is winter here now and we never see the sun anymore :(

I am graduating for my Masters tomorrow. My hood is a blue colour, so I'm going to try and match it with China Glaze frostbite covered in OPI Last Friday Night. Well see how it turns out.

China Glaze 3D Fantasy

Holographic polishes don't really need many words do they?

China Glaze 3D Fantasy - sunshine
Enlarge the picture to see the holo goodness this polish has - again compressing the image dulls the holoness - but I assure you it is holo!

This is a red/orange scattered holographic from the 2011 Tronica collection. I love these polishes. China Glaze make great 2 coater holographic polishes.

China Glaze Virtual Violet

China Glaze Virtual Violet is the first of the Tronica polishes I tried out. Thanks again to smoochiefrog for sending me these polishes (check out her month of holographic polishes here)

China Glaze Virtual Violet - sunshine

These pictures look alot better englarged. Compressing them hides the rainbows and the holographic-ness of this polish, so click on them to see the holographic awesomeness.

While the polishes in the Tronica collection are as holographic as the OMG and Kaleidoscope collections, but they are pretty and are holographic. The Tronica collection have scattered holo and do look really great in the sun. They are two coaters and dry quickly. You can easily wear them with out a top or base coat.

Its getting very cold and wet here and the sunshine has dissappeared, so getting more pictures of these holographic polishes is getting harder.

Hope you all had a good weekend

Make Up Store Madeleine

Holo alert!

I bought this polish when I was in Melbourne last month. This is the only one I bought because damn they are expensive. This was AU$26 for only 8ml of polish! that means for a standard size 15mls of this you are looking at around AU$50!!!! which is almost NZ$70!!!

These polishes have been talked about a lot on Make Up Alley lately - actually just after I came back from Melbourne. I had never heard of the Make Up Store brand before (as it is not in New Zealand) so I am glad that I bought this one, and came home to see that so many people were lemming these holo polishes.

Make Up Store Madeleine - Sunshine

As you can see this is a linear holographic polish. The rainbows are long and formed as opposed to scattered all over the place. This is three coats, and it definitely needs it. It is quite sheer and uneven. Dry time was standard and the brush was great and made it easy to apply. My biggest problem with this polish is that the holo only really shows up in the sun. In the shade it looks like a slightly odd metallic foil.

Make Up Store Madeleine - Shade

All up it is an ok polish. I think the hype surrounding these make up stores in around the fact that they are linear holos and these are few and far between. China Glazes OMG polishes are also linear holographics but are very hard to find and are starting to get rather expensive now.
The price is a major turn off for this polish for me. Luckily for my wallet there are no Make Up Store retailers in New Zealand so I don't have to worry about being tempted to buy any more of these.

China Glaze Mail

Look what arrived yesterday and was waiting for me on the front doorstep when I got home from work.....

The entire China Glaze Tronica collection!!!!!!!

All thanks to smoochiefrog (aka Tina) from Manicure Mommas. Yet again she has come to the rescue sending me a whole collection I couldnt otherwise get. I love her.

Thanks once again Tina!
I cant wait to start using these before the last of our summer ends and the sun disappears. There is a whole lot of holographic goodness that needs to be worn!

An open letter to china glaze...

Seeing as my last letter to Zoya actually resulted in a polish called Lisa, I thought Id try another one.

Dear China Glaze,

Why dont you sell your polishes in New Zealand? You make some great colours and I love your collections. I know our market is small, so I can understand this. Luckily I can get most of your polishes online and shipped to me for a reasonable price.

However you chose not to let etailers sell the Tronica collection.

This makes me sad. I need holos in my life and you are denying me.

Did you not think that you are alienating all the nail polish lovers in the world who don't have a Sally's near by? A quick search on the Sally's website shows that stores are only located in 6 countries. Surely there is enough of us in the rest of the world who buy your products that you wouldn't want to leave us all out. would you?

Ebay prices for these polishes are ridiculous and I don't like to fuel the people who take advantage of those of us who can not get these polishes easily.

So that is my little rant over.
Yours sincerely
Lisa

So if any one out there would be able to help me get my chubby little hands on some or all of the Tronica collection please let me know! I will swap or pay you and love you for the rest of your life!

Milani 3D Holographic Collection

In November I completed my first nail polish swap with the amazing Tina aka smoochiefrog from Manicure Mommas. She very kindly sent me the Nicole Gossip Girl collection and the surprise was the whole entire Milani 3D Holographic collection. This collection consists of 6 holographic colours.

Left to Right: Milani Hi-Res, Digital, 3D, Hi-Tech, Cyberspace and HD

These polishes are AMAZING! the holographic-ness of them is awesome. They don't look that sparkly from the outside of the bottle, but once you put them on they are great! I think they are the best holographic polishes I own at the moment (better than the China Glaze OMG collection! and that is saying a lot)
Milani HD - Shade

Milani HD - Sunshine

Milani 3D - Shade

Milani Cyberspace - Shade

Milani Hi-Tech - Shade

Milani Hi-Tech - Sunshine

Milani Hi-Res - Shade

Milani Hi-Res - Sunshine

As you can see from enlarging any of the pictures that are in the sun that these are amazing! They are still pretty in the shade though. All of these were 3 coats (except from HD which was 4 coats). Easy application with a good brush. HD could be used as a holographic topcoat as is quite sheer for the first coat/2coats.

Milani polishes are not sold in New Zealand. Your best options is to swap or buy online to get some of these.

Sally Hansen Ruby Diamond

When Lisa (the other one, not me) went to Australia for a conference a while ago she bought me back Ruby Diamond. This is from the Sally Hansen Nail Prisms collection. Tina (aka smoochiefrog from Manicure Mommas) informed me that these are quite old now and hard to find, which explains why Lisa found it in a bargain bin on sale. I did see these about a month ago in New Zealand at a cosmetics plus store, but in the weekend when I asked if they still had any left they said they were all sold out but they may be getting more Sally Hansen polishes back in stock later on. (fingers crossed)

Sally Hansen Ruby Diamond - sunshine

This is a great holographic polish. Only 2 coats is needed (but I seem to automatically do three for everything now). Very awesome pink rainbow finish. These photographs don't really do it justice. I really like it a lot.

With China Glazes OMG collection now on the hard to find list, I suggest it maybe easier to hunt some of these down (especially if you are in America). It seems like this would fit in perfectly with the other polishes in the OMG collection. I wish you all luck on your holographic hunts.

From what I know Sally Hansen is quite a big thing in other parts of the world, but here it barely features at all. Farmers sells the treatments and a very small selection of polishes but that is about it for New Zealand.

BYS Down the rabbit hole

BYS Down the rabbit hole is from the 2010 Wonderland collection. It was thought this was just an Australian collection but it is also here in New Zealand. I brought mine on Saturday at a cosmetics plus store for $8.90 (and they had plenty more in stock as well as the other 2 polishes in this collection).

It is a black jelly with silver holographic glitter. The following pictures are all 3 coats and were taken in different lights to show how the glitter changes in the light.

In the shade this polish just looks black with silver glitter in it

BYS Down the Rabbit hole - Shade (inside)

BYS Down the Rabbit hole - Sunshine

The camera doesn't manage to capture all of the holo - so it is sparklier in real life. I do wish the black was darker but that's not what happens when you have a black jelly full of glitter (if the black was too dark you would drown the glitter).

The one problem I had with this polish is the smell. It smells like something you would use to wax your car with. As far as I can tell from my chemistry knowledge and the ingredients on the back of the pack these are B3F (although if you know for sure if they are or not please let me know)

This polish is featured in my 100 followers giveaway. Click here to enter to win 4 BYS polishes.

Lots of Love
Lisa
