Glitter Gal Marine Blue

There was a tiny little bit of sun yesterday so I quickly swatched Glitter Gal Marine Blue from the 3D Holographic collection. I can not wait for summer so I can wear more holographic polishes.

Glitter Gal 3D holographic Marine Blue - Sunshine

This is a medium blue. This was two coats. Unfortunately the holo-ness of this polish didn't transfer well into the photographs, as it is much more visible in real life. The holographic particles are linear and form rainbows in a line, as opposed to scattered all over the place. The polish was easy to apply, even though they are in little bottles (9mls). The brush is still a decent length to make application easy. Dry time was quick. I find holographic polishes don't take as long to dry as regular polishes.

Nicole by OPI Party in the Penthouse

This is one of four polishes from the Nicole by OPI Gossip Girl Collection that came out in 2010.

These were not available in New Zealand so thanks to smoochiefrog from Manicure Mommas for sending me this collection.

Nicole by OPI Party in the Penthouse - white light

Its a dark dusty blue silver shimmer. This is three coats. It is pretty and suitable for winter and the cold weather we are having at the moment.

Milani Cyberspace

I had a terrible day at work yesterday and am really still upset. My nails are naked and I cant think of any polish I want to put on that will cheer me up even a little. Today is Saturday but one of my best friends is having a house warming so I have to go and see everyone from work there and I am so not looking forward to it.

This is a mani from last week. It is two coats of Milani Cyberspace over two coats of OPI Whats with the Cattitude?

Milani Cyberspace over OPI Whats with the Cattitude? - white light

It is still winter here so there isn't any sun (in fact they are predicting snow where there isn't usually snow tomorrow), but this is holographic and i liked the softness of the light blue. I think the creme polish underneath helped make the holographic on top seem cleaner and nicer.

Some Essence Spam

These are a couple of the Essence polishes Jill sent me from Europe.

These are all 2 coats. They are all reasonably thick and very pigmented. The bottles are little and cute, but harder to use because of their size. These are all 5mls.

Essence Underwater - white light

Darkish dusty blue. In the bottle you can see a light blue shimmer, but it doesnt really transfer on to the nail very well.

Essence Ultimate Pink - white light

This one is a medium pink creme.

Essence What Do U Think? - white light

This is a medium orange peach with a fine gold shimmer.

Color Club Starry Temptress Collection

So instead of doing 6 separate posts I thought I would stick these all in one big one. All swatches are 3 coats.

Color Club Space Case - Sunshine

This is by far my favourite of the collection. It is the only one that doesn't finish matte like. This one is like a glittery versions of Color Clubs Electro Candy and appears to have the ultra violet shimmer running through it. Definitely the star of the collection.

Color Club Ultra-Astral - Sunshine

This one appears slightly oranger in the picture than it is in real life. The sun also makes it appear less opaque than it really is.

Color Club Wink, Wink, Twinkle - Sunshine

Color Club Wink, Wink, Twinkle - Shade

This is a pinky purple which looks more colour accurate in the second picture.

Color Club You Got Soul-ar - Sunshine

Color Club You Got Soul-ar - Shade

This is a bright orange neon. Not so yellow toned in real life as it appears in the pictures. Neons are so hard to photograph well!

Color Club Glitter Envy - Sunshine

Color Club Glitter Envy - Shade

A bright green polish. This one is quite colour accurate.

Color Club Otherworldly - White Light

This is a nice medium blue. This one turned out true to colour in the picture.

The formula on all of these polishes was great. All pictures are three coats. They all dried fast and the thickness of the polishes was just perfect. Color Clubs formulas seem to be improving with each new collection they put out. This collections formulas were also consistent across all the polishes.

The biggest problem I had with all of these colour (except Space Case) was that the colour is a little dense and drowns out the sparkle of the glitter, making the polishes dry matte. The glitter sparkles more in real life, especially in the sun, than it appears to in the photos.

This 7 piece set comes with a Starry Temptress Topcoat for "extra shine and twinkle!" I haven't used this in any of these pictures, but may experiment over some black later on.

Hope your all having a good weekend.

These polishes were sent to me for review. There is a couple of sets available on www.usanailsonline.co.nz for $59 a 7 pack.

My Graduation + NOTD

Yesterday I graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with my Masters in Science for Applied Statistics, with 1st Class Honours.

The hood for my degree is a blue colour so I figured I would match my polish to that. I did my nails the night before with out actually having my hood for reference so I think I did pretty well to match the colours so well.

This is three coats of Chins Glaze Frostbite, covered in a layer of OPI Last Friday Night.

Here it is against my hood.

You aren't going to get a full picture of me in my robes (I dont look very goo in them) so here is it over my back.

I've had this on for over two full days now and as we are going out for a celebratory dinner tonight, I haven't had time to take it off. It has worn very well, and only has the regular shrinkage caused by my Seche Vite top coat.

OPI Last Friday Night

On Saturday we managed to find a Farmers that actually had some of the Katy Perry polishes left in stock. These are selling for $25 each, so luckily I got mine ages ago online.

Here is Last Friday Night from the much anticipated and sold out Katy Perry Collection.

OPI Last Friday Night - Sunshine

OPI Last Friday Night - Shade

This is three coats.. Slightly thicker than I thought it would be. Light blue jelly with 2 different sized blue/silver/rainbow glitters. Not great alone if you don't like visible nail lines, but great as a top coat.

The Katy Perry collection was the first to have the shatter polish as part of the collection. All four polishes were designed to be layered with Black Shatter.

OPI Black Shatter over OPI Last Friday Night

I am still wearing my shellac at the moment and it has been horrible weather here all weekend so I haven't managed to get a photo of it in sunlight yet. I do have a couple of little chips that I am not too happy about. My salon gives a one week free touch up, but I so cant be bothered going all the way there to get them fixed up. I'm getting a bit bored of the colour and cant wait to try out some of my new un-trieds (Color Club Starry Temptress is calling my name). I'm thinking I might be able to make it to the end of this week before I have to remove it - It just seems a waste when it costs so much.

Color Club Factory Girl + Comparison + Glitter

This is another polish from Color Clubs Poptastic Collection. These are still on sale in New Zealand at www.usanailsonline.co.nz for only NZ$8.90.

Color Club Factory Girl - Sunshine

Factory girl starts of sheer but after three coats is fine. It is a light blue creme polish with a smooth finish. Dry time was good and wear was good as well.

I thought I'd do a comparison of some other light blue creme polishes to show you what it is like.
Here is a comparison between Color Club Factory Girl, OPI Whats with the Cattitude? and Color Club Take me to your Chateau.

Light blue creme comparison - sunshine

Factory Girl and Cattitude are both three coats. These too are the closest in colour to each other. I think that the OPI polish has a nicer formula, where theirs are slightly jelly-ish. Color Club Take me to your chateau is much lighter. This one was only two coats. It is a much thicker creamier polish that needs less coats to reach opaqueness. My favourite of the three is OPI whats with the cattitude? It has a nicer formula than the other two.

Light blue comparisons (same order as above photo) covered with OPI Last Friday Night - Sunshine

I then covered the comparison in OPI Last Friday Night from the Katy Perry Collection. I love this jelly glitter as a top coat over blue polishes. I think it works well with all three of these blues. Here the lighter blue of take me to your chateau works very well - but this polish is designed to go with a glitter top coat (Color Club Si Vous Please!)

Essence Bonnie and Clyde

This is the second pair of Essence Nail Art Twins sent from the lovely Jill that I tried.

This is set #03 - Bonnie and Clyde

This is Bonnie and Clyde. I think I am of a slightly too younger generation to really understand who Bonnie and Clyde were.

Essence Bonnie - Sunshine

Essence Bonnie - Shade

This is a medium creme blue. This was two coats, but again if you were in a hurry (and were using the top coat) you could get away with one thick coat. This is a smooth creme polish.

WARNING - use a base coat!!!! this thing stains like a *******

Essence Clyde (over Bonnie) - Sunshine

Essence Clyde (over Bonnie) - Shade

This is one coat of Clyde over the two coats of Bonnie. The glitter is a few different shapes and sizes. The bigger bits of glitter in this are silvery blue squares, floating in a blue base filled with little tiny blue and silver glitter pieces.

It does look pretty and I like these pairs, but please please please use a base coat underneath! I cant stress that enough!!!

BYS Colour Change Blue Glitter

I have so many things to post about at the moment! I don't know what to post first!

So here is the first BYS Colour Change polish I tried out. These are available in New Zealand for NZ$8.90. Also available in Australia and online at fashionaddict.com.

This is Blue Glitter. (pretty simple name huh?)

It was a lot more sheer than I expected. This is three coats. Applies easily, but takes a little while to dry. It applies dark (ie the colour of the polish in the bottle) but as it dries it changes to a very light sheer blue. There is little bits of silver glitter through out the polish, that is quite cute.

When your hands are warm it is a light blue. It is quite subtle, even with the glitter when it is this colour and I became quite fond of it like this.

BYS Colour Change Glitter Blue - warm state - natural light

When you make the polish cold it changes from light blue to only a slightly darker blue. I used cold water to get this to work.

BYS Colour Change Glitter Blue - cold state - natural light

I was actually kind of disappointed with the lack of colour change, but in saying that the two colours on the bottle lid are these two here - so in that sense it is meeting its own standards. I think a darker blue would have been nice.

What do you think? have you tried the BYS colour change polishes?
I've got another three to try out, so we will wait and see how they all are.

Nicole by OPI Nicole...Spotted!

Fun fact: My middle name is Nicole. You learn something every day don't you!

This was another polish sent to me by Smoochiefrog from manicure mommas. She answered my call and granted my wish for the Nicole OPI Gossip Girl collection.

Nicole by OPI Nicole...Spotted! - natural light

Looking at the outside of this bottle it looks like an almost perfect match for China Glazes Atlantis. But its not. Nicole...Spotted! is much much more sheer. This is three coats. I think I actually like it better than Atlantis because it is more subtle. As you can see it can be worn by itself but will also make a great glitter top coat. It is silver and teal glitter floating in a teal/blue base filled with tiny bits of teal glitter.

I think I'm going to save the rest of this Gossip Girl collection for autumn/winter as it is made up of dark deep teal/blue colours.

Milani 3D Holographic Collection

In November I completed my first nail polish swap with the amazing Tina aka smoochiefrog from Manicure Mommas. She very kindly sent me the Nicole Gossip Girl collection and the surprise was the whole entire Milani 3D Holographic collection. This collection consists of 6 holographic colours.

Left to Right: Milani Hi-Res, Digital, 3D, Hi-Tech, Cyberspace and HD

These polishes are AMAZING! the holographic-ness of them is awesome. They don't look that sparkly from the outside of the bottle, but once you put them on they are great! I think they are the best holographic polishes I own at the moment (better than the China Glaze OMG collection! and that is saying a lot)
Milani HD - Shade

Milani HD - Sunshine

Milani 3D - Shade

Milani Digital - Shade

Milani Digital - Sunshine

Milani Cyberspace - Shade

Milani Cyberspace - Sunshine

Milani Hi-Tech - Shade

Milani Hi-Tech - Sunshine

Milani Hi-Res - Shade

Milani Hi-Res - Sunshine

As you can see from enlarging any of the pictures that are in the sun that these are amazing! They are still pretty in the shade though. All of these were 3 coats (except from HD which was 4 coats). Easy application with a good brush. HD could be used as a holographic topcoat as is quite sheer for the first coat/2coats.

Milani polishes are not sold in New Zealand. Your best options is to swap or buy online to get some of these.

Sally Hansen BLU

This is one of the polishes I bought just before Christmas from the Sally Hansen Hi-Definition Collection. I went back about a week later and all that was left were the orange and yellow polishes from this collection. A few weeks after that and there were none left. Luckily I got in right at the start :)
Sally Hansen BLU - Natural Light

This was three coats and i was quite surprised because I had been warned that these were quite sheer (although in saying that this is still the only one I have tried yet). I really like this blue. I couldn't find anything else like this in my collection. It took a little while to get used to the slightly longer brush (the stalk bit) but after that was fine. No clean up needed.

I'm looking forward to trying out some more from this collection. I think it really is a summer collection, as the colours are quite bright.

Don't forget my Zoya giveaway. Entries close tomorrow night.

Color Club Pure Energy

Quick post for today. I have been super busy lately and feel guilty for not posting more recently. I had just managed to grow my nails to a good length when in one day they all managed to break :( and I always feel bad about posting pics with uber short nubbins.

I love the Color Club Electro Candy collection. It is one of my favourite collections, and doesn't contain a single colour I don't like.

Here is the blue polish from the collection.

Color Club Pure Energy - sunshine

This is a great medium shimmer blue, that has a neon blue/green/gold flash running through it. I love it. This is a collection of neons that you can wear any day and not feel slightly over the top in.
